EMAIL: MARTY MARTINS TAKE ON THE WORLD TODAY
Wise words from my friend Marty Martin, World's greatest rattlesnake hunter.
Email forward from Bruce Morgan - now for my 2-bits worth on your friend's words (in italics);
Note: If you are easily offended or dislike controversy, read no further.
State of the World/Nation and some predictions. Destruction of the World's
life support systems continues unabaited.
Ah - I guess no one has ever pointed out the fact to you Marty that the planet has already gone through 5 distinct catastrophic events that destroyed 90% of all species that have ever existed - and all this before man's existence! Nature loves to experiment. The next event is overdue. Are you ready?!
The junta is using the events of
9/11/01 to run rough shod over the environment and over all opposition to
their policies in general. Speak out!
Well, it looks like Germany has finally won World War II and of course she
learned the futility of attempting to win militarily.
It looks like Germany is trying to play the role of 'Peacemaker' in the world today (against war with Iraq) - isn't that ironic? But of course it is political posturing to gain the moral high ground while protecting their economic assets. Sound familiar? Sure! All countries do it. Japan has been the real champ from the former 'Axis of Evil'. If you have spent any time overseas with the Japanese you know their views of Asian economic dominance and their racial superiority attitudes have not changed since their 'set-back' in '45.
Hitler set the
Germans back about 50 years in their quest for domination of Europe.
Set-back of the state by leadership? That would include Castro, Daniel Ortega, Mandela, Kim Jong II and Arafat.
Likewise, the South has finally won the civil war with the North giving up
with barely a whimper. (When was the last time a northerner got to be
president unless you count Junior who claims to be a Texan.) Look for the
Northeast to eventually secede and probably go with their kinsmen in the
Maritime provinces when Canada breaks up. The Hispanic Southwest will
probably go their own way as well as northern California.
? ? Social evolution follows natural patterns like everything else, and that would mean the continuation of the blurring of 'tribal boundaries'. The world is now divided by 'economic boundaries' - which means clashes between the economic classes, within and without national boundaries!
Pakistan and
India will both fall apart but probably not before a nuclear exchange. A
nuclear exchange is possible in the Mideast as well and a suitcase bomb in
one of our cities is a good possibility.
You can not get the Genie back into the bottle. It has always been just a matter of time when nukes would be deployed again - a miracle it has not happened yet! Just as the specter of serious terrorism on American soil has loomed for so long before 9/11. Now the American paradigm has been adjusted to that of the rest of the world. To reality.
Okay let's take stock of the state
of the world. Two years after the coup d'etat that installed the junta, we
are on the brink of a potentially disastrous episode of WWIII (that is if
the Iraqi people, after being starved for 11 years, fail to welcome us with
open arms or Saddam fails to go into exile). President-elect Al Gore, the
congress, and the public are strangely silent. If this were 1968 the
rioting might have already brought down the government. Like the Vietnam
war before it, the military does not want this looming war with Iraq.
Among the 'World Oil Community' it is widely believed that Iraq has the world's greatest oil reserves - as much as 25%. So we are going to kill two birds with one stone (ie. war); save the world from Saddam - and save the oil for us (screw the Germans and French interests!). So is it really a 'justifiable war'? If you believe that self-defense is the only reason to kill the enemy, this one fails the test.
Yesterday Norman Schwartzcopf came out publicly against it. I am brought
back to 1964 when Congress gave away their war powers to President Johnson
and he got us into a war that, just as today much of the military
(certainly most of those of us who had already spent time in Indochina) was
advising against.
If you had been reading Homer-Dixon or Kaplan you would not have been
especially surprised by the attack of 9/11. I think what surprised
everybody, including the attackers was how well it succeeded probably
beyond the wildest dreams of Al Quaeda. Did we do the right thing by
attacking Al Quaeda and the Taliban? Absolutely, in fact we were several
years late and we are still lagging in our efforts. We were attacked and had
no choice but to retaliate. To their credit, the junta has done a
creditable job in Afghanistan although that is the only thing they have
managed to get right. (Al Gore would have probably rung his hands under the
circumstances.) Any future attack on us should be met with massive
retaliation within 24 hours.
We have been very slow to come to an appropriate level of self defense with Al Queda and other terrorists - it took 9/11 for America to become realistic about the vulnerability of civilian populations to the misguided deeds of the fanatical. It used to amaze me how naive Americans are about these things ( I have lived several years in war torn countries of Asia and Central America).
There are plenty of appropriate targets in
Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Lebanon, Yemen, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Iraq
is at the bottom of the list and a side show that will just drain our energy
and certainly have unintended consequences. No need to worry about exactly
which group to retaliate against they don't. And neither need we worry
about offending some of our Moslem allies they already hate us. But mostly
for the wrong reasons. True, we are a rogue nation that flaunts
international law. Hey, we're the biggest guys on the block, so let's stop
pussyfooting around we can't have it both ways. What the radical islalmics
are really mad about is that (1) women are liberated here they drive cars,
drink alcohol, smoke, and show flesh; (2) Muslims are near the bottom of
the heap and in spite of their oil wealth will never get off of the bottom.
( I think there are analogies within our own culture. Who commits the bulk
of the violent crime and rape? Those at the bottom of the heap that see no
recourse.) (3) Infidels (Americans ) are in Saudi Arabia (and I quite agree
that we have no business being there supporting a bunch of despots - the
Saudi Royal family). We have no intrinsic right to the oil that lies under
Arab countries.
When America did the first serious flexing of it's international muscle - it was with Teddy Roosevelt. His philosophy was; "Speak softly and carry a big stick". Sounds like he read the ancient Chinese book - 'The Art of War', which is still the world's best book on the subject. The problem with being the world's 'policeman' is no different then being a policeman anywhere at any level. You get no respect from those who are protected (the Europeans, Kuwaitis, Kurds, Saudis, South Koreans, etc), you are hated by the bad boys you have to go after (Islamic Extremists, Serbs, Somalis, Koreans), and you spend a lot of risky time in bad neighborhoods.
Okay, the first thing we need to do is hire some
Israelies to teach us how to conduct security since we are obviously too
stupid to figure it out. How long do you think that pitiful sniper team
that terrorized the DC area would have lasted in Israel? They would have
died in a hale of bullets while leaving the scene of the first attack. And
how long has it been since El Al had a plane hijacked?
So why do we have these problems now? Terrorism, enviromental degradation,
dysfunctional families, a World economy on the verge of collapse? Of
course, as always, greed is a major factor. But at the root of all of the
world's problems is overpopulation. There is one way and only one way to
get that under control and that is by cash incentives for voluntary
sterilization.Predictions for the coming century and beyond. Population will peak in 50
years at around 9 billion and begin a slow decline to a sustainable level of
around 1 billion in about 2500 years. Aids and other epidemics will come
into play keeping population from rising as rapidly as the more pessimistic
predictions. By this time we will have long been in the ice age with much of
North America, Europe and Siberia under a mile or more of ice and we may
even see the beginnings within 50 years. Burning of fossil fuels has
probably held off for a while, the inevitable.
All species have an optimum population number for any given environment and moment in time. Nature is dynamic - not static, and environmental/population conditions constantly change with or without the help of man. The pressures of over population for most species has always resulted in disease and famine - and of course for man, it also includes the horror of war. The pendulum swings back and forth from one set of chaotic conditions to another - with a brief period of balance and stability at the bottom. There are cycles within cycles - at both the micro and the macro levels of the universe. Within 50 years, politics in
North America and the rest of the developed world will be between the Greens
(the true conservatives that favor living sustainably and leaving something
for our descendants) and the Browns (the growth advocates, who in typical
double-speak often refer to themselves as conservatives while the only thing
they want to conserve is their own money while advancing the take-over of
the World by the stateless multinationals). Democrats and Republicans will
have become irrelevant by mid-century. There is hardly any difference
between them anyway. They are both beholden to the cabal that pays their
bills. Of course they both demagogue to get votes. The democrats try to
pretend that they are green and that they like minorities and old people.
Republicans of course cater to the Christian right (as if they really give a
hoot about unborn babies) and ironically, Junior's policies of cutting off
funding for population control have resulted in a sky-rocketing of the
world-wide abortion rate.
As long as the Federal Government is run by the 'Millionaires Club' (the Reps & Senators on Capital Hill) there will be little difference between the political parties.
New technology will allow a small percentage of
the population to live productive and healthful lives to 90 and 100 while at
the same time the average US and world life expectancy declines.
Let's put things in perspective. How much of a threat is Osama Bin Laden,
Al Quaeda, anthrax, and small pox? Osama Bin Laden- I rank him below Sam
Walton (and he is dead). Sam Walton has destroyed the small town in
America. We will never know how many lives he ruined and how many suicides
he caused. Al Quaeda? I rank them behind Monsanto, Cargill, Nafta, IMF,
Walmart and Homeland Security. Anthrax and smallpox? Behind lightning
and venomous snake bite (and way behind for those of us who work with
venomous snakes on a regular basis). That said, we still need to hunt down
and kill Al Quaeda and their supporters wherever they are to be found.
Okay, it's a new year and you are doing your part by driving a fuel
efficient vehicle, separating your garbage from recyclables and limiting
your family size to one or two offspring. Feel good? So what have you
accomplished? (1) You managed to save a little money with your small car
but your effect on pollution was negligible. (2) If your trash is not mixed
with food garbage, then dogs are less likely to scatter unsightly trash on
your lawn and remind you of all the useless junk you went out and bought.
(3) You are hastening the extinction of your genetic line to be replaced by
lowlifes who are breeding out of control. If you really want to make a
difference you pester your legislators for incentives and disincentives that
will accomplish ecologically sound goals. (It takes a lot of pestering to
counter corporate contributions.) Regarding population, everyone of us that
is here today is here because our ancestors outbred and outsurvived their
neighbors. That is why cash incentives and disincentives are the only
solution. (Only human greed can override the instincts to breed.) Currently
we are practicing dysgenics (we encourage the least fit to breed out of
control), the first and only species ever to do so. (emphasis mine, SW)
Advice to the Democratic party: (1) Show some backbone, that is if there is
one of you, other than Robert Byrd (Senator, WV) who is not a woose. You
should not have let the Republicans steal the last presidential election.
Who was Commander in Chief at the time, anyway? (2) You can't win an
election if you are on the unpopular side of all of the issues that are
important to middle America. You might slide by being against one or two of
these but not all three. In addition to their jobs these three issues are:
(a) abortion, (b) gun control, (c) affirmative action. Stop courting the
minority vote. Most of those that do vote aren't going to vote for the
Republicans anyway so distance yourselves from crazies such as Louis
Farrakhan and Jesse Jackson. (The best thing for all concerned, minorities
included, is a color-blind meritocracy or perhaps we should require the NBA
to recruit a few white lesbian midgets.) And about gun control- my guns
have killed less people than Laura Bush's car. Get with it. Stiffer
penalties for violent criminals, starting with castration for first-time
rapists and child molesters, and a readily obtainable national handgun
license for citizens.
Advice to the Republicans. The public (the 48% of the voters that voted for
you, including most of the hunters and fishermen) believed you when you said
you weren't going to trash the environment. When you said you were against
welfare, they thought you meant for everybody, not realizing you meant
everybody except the 10 percent in the top financial bracket. You can't get
away with lying forever.
First thing they taught me in political science ('65 - U. of the Americas - Mexico City) is that politicians end up doing the opposite of what they promise. You would think by now that this concept would be common knowledge in the general population. I remember meeting Senator Berry Goldwater at that school (took his photo for the University Press) and listening to his Hawkish views on communism and the Southeast Asia 'problem'. I thought; "Thank God he lost to President Johnson - the man that promised to keep us out of a disastrous war in Asia".
Bring back the draft with readily obtained alternate service for those who
cannot stomach getting shot at or shooting somebody else. We need numbers
of highly trained men (no boys or girls) on the ground and not more star
wars which only benefit the military-industrial complex. Anyway that is not
where the future of warfare lies. (If we had a draft now, the cabal's
scheduled war against Iraq would have a whole lot less public support and
that is the reason they are not pushing for a draft.) To those who oppose
family planning: I trust you have put your name on the list to adopt all
those unwanted welfare and crack babies, not to mention all those

In 1963 I attended a lecture by Paul Ehrlich (author of "The Population Bomb'). His first statement went something like this; "Every three seconds, somewhere on this planet, there is a woman having a baby. What we have to do is find her and stop her!" After that laugh it was all down hill - the doom and gloom scenario was vividly described during the remaining lecture. I left feeling a sense of hopelessness for the planet's and man's future. I had bought into the 'Chicken Little' mentality (for the first and last time) that has cropped up every hundred years or so for the last 5, 000 years (accurate human recordings only go back that far). Anyway - I have done a lot of living, traveling and studying in the 40 years since that lecture. And what I have I learned? Basically, the more things change, the more they remain the same. Real changes takes place at the personal level, one person at a time. Anyone who want to make a better world - to make a difference, needs to start with themselves. The world needs more good examples of people showing compassion, tolerance and understanding - not more rhetoric. We have enough rhetoric already - and here I am contributing to that! Ha!
"Find peace in your mind and you will find peace in the world".
